MEFC completes phenomenal season

March 11: Machhindra Energizer FC finished 6th place in the 2063 (2006/07) Nepal League to complete a highly successful season that witnessed many highlights including victories over an undefeated Army side, a double against APF, and being awarded with the ANFA Fair Play award. All this comes after having only been in the top flight of the football league for two seasons.  

The MEFC season concluded with a dazzling awards ceremony that received rave reviews by all who attended at the Machhindra Bahal neighborhood. Prominent football officials, sponsors, business houses, donors, players, fans and well wishers were present at the gala.

The event included speeches from MEFC officials and ANFA President Ganesh Thapa. Mr. Thapa complimented the Machhindra team for their strong performance and with its young and dedicated staff predicted even greater results for the club in the future. Nepa Hima Trade LInk Pvt. Ltd. President Nabin Tuladhar presented the sponsors check to MEFC President Sunil Kapali. 

MEFC handed out various awards on the occasion:

  • Best Forward - Buddha Chemjong, distributed by Nabin Shakya

  • Most Disciplined Player - Madan Rai, distributed by Anil Shrestha

MEFC holds gathering, signs two Nigerians

January 1: Machhindra Energizer FC formerly announced the signing of Michael Olakitan and Sola Otegbola at a club gathering held at Hotel Himalaya. The two Nigerian nationals from Lagos last played for Maldives first division side Guraidhoo where Michael played in a midfield role while Salo played as a striker and was the second leading scorer in the Maldives league netting 19 goals in 21 games.

The forum allowed players, club members and officials from sponsors Energizer and Adidas a chance to discuss the future of the football club. On the occasion ANFA Vice President Mahesh Bista handed out training kits donated by Prakash Manandhar to the players.

MEFC Head Coach Tope Fuja expressed optimism for the second league, “I think the players see from this gathering how serious Machhindra is about winning and I am confident that they will deliver some great results in the 2nd League.”

 

Machhindra Energized!

November 1: Machhindra FC signed a 1-year sponsorship contract that will make Energizer battery company their signature sponsor. The club will now be called Machhindra Energizer FC. 

As a part of the agreement the Energizer logo will appear prominently on the front of the club’s kits as well as on the Machhindra Energizer FC official website and at functions in and around the Machhindra Bahal neighborhood in central Kathmandu.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed at the Hotel Himalaya between Machhindra President Sunil Kapali and Nepa Hima Trade Link Pvt. Ltd CEO Rajesh Tuladhar on the 29th of October. The terms of the agreement are undisclosed.

“Machhindra FC is a fast rising club filled with passionate and energetic officials and we are happy to associate the Energizer brand with such a club,” commented Mr. Tuladhar.

Mr. Kapali stated, “We are delighted that a prominent global brand such as Energizer is sponsoring us. This is another great achievement for the club as we look to become the leading football club in Nepal in the coming years.”

Energizer is one of the leading battery and flashlight makers in the world. Energizer powers people’s lives all over the world. Including Nepal.

 

Red Lions tour Assam

Machhindra officials tour Geylang United

September 15: Machhindra FC directors Nabin Chitrakar and Biplav Gautam were guests of S-League side Geylang United on their recent visit to Singapore for the Asian Under 17 Championships.

The MFC officials took a tour of the Geylang United club as well as their stadium. They held talks with Geyland United President Patrick Ang, General Manager Ong Yeok Phee and Assistant Manager John Chia.

Mr. Chitrakar expressed his excitement on the opportunity to visit the Eagles, "It was fantastic to see how a professional club operates. We hope to implement many of the things we learned on this visit when we get back to the Machhindra offices," he continued, "We had some great discussions with Geylang United officials and have setup a valuable link that will allow our top players and coaches to train in Singapore if they prove themselves in Nepal."  

 

Under 17 Red Lions perform well in Singapore

September 10: At the recent Asian Under 17 Championships in Singapore MFC players showed that the club has a bright future. Four out of the twenty players in the Nepal squad were Red Lions. While goalkeeper Kiran Limbu had to settle for a backup role, Swashtik Basista performed admirably in defense clearing several balls from the goalline.

Azad Pradhan had the best shot on goal for Nepal in the tournament, a volley that was magnificently saved by the Korean goalkeeper. Buddha Chemjong caused havoc to both the Korean and Singaporean defenses with his dashing runs and nifty passes. 

 

South Asian Games medallists felicitated

September 1: Machhindra FC officials and fans felicitated South Asian Games medallists at a program at Mahhindra Bahal. The medallists were on a parade route around Kathmandu, but MFC officials stopped their cavalry and made sure that the star athletes were given a special celebration from their Machhindra fans.

MFC linkup with Villans

July 22: English Premier League side Aston Villa has donated equipment worth Rs. 200,000 to Machhindra FC. 

At a ceremony at the club’s premises in central Kathmandu, MFC President Sunil Kapali and Executive Board Member Biplav Gautam handed over Aston Villa uniform sets to current players.

Mr. Gautam, also a passionate Aston Villa supporter, expressed his delight at the generous gesture by the 1982 European Champions. "This is a real boost for our team. Everyone at the club – players, officials and fans, are absolutely thrilled."

Mr. Kapali said that Machhindra FC would play in the Aston Villa kits for a select match in the upcoming Martyrs’ Memorial League “A” Division...See all the photos and articles from the event

June 17: Sunil Kapali was re elected President of Machhindra Club at its members meeting. Anil Shrestha and Prabodh Bir Kansakar are the new Vice President and Secretary respectfully. Bijay Kansakar held on to his post as Treasurer. The elected Committee Members were Jeebendra Kamarcharya, Anil Karmacharya, Nabin Shakya, Rajan Kansakar and Prajwal Man Tuladhar.  

 

Eight players signed

June 1: Last year's MFC player of the year, Madan Rai (Pictured), is one of eight players that have been signed by Machhindra FC for the upcoming season.

The other signings include goalkeepers: Kiran Kumar Limbu, Dasarath Adhikari; defenders: Om Prakash Dhogada, Swashik Jung Basista; midfielders: Azad Pradhan, Sudip Limbu; and striker: Buddha Chemjong.

Team manager Anil Shrestha conveyed his happiness over the signings and said he hopes to sign 10 - 12 more players including a few imports.

"We've signed most of our top players from last year and filled some holes like goalkeeping. We should be able to sign a few more of last years stars in the coming weeks and with a couple of foreign players we will have a solid squad for the Martyrs League."

 

Red Lions prepare for upcoming season

After surviving its first year in the Martyrs League "A" division,  Machhindra FC is in the process of building its team for next seasons campaign, which should get under way in the summer months.

MFC has already signed several new players and is currently looking to fill up the rest of the squad. Details will be posted in the near future.

Feb. 15: Machhindra FC honoured players and officials at an elaborate awards dinner at the C&W restaurant. The function was graced by All Nepal Football President Ganesh Thapa and top sports journalists. 

The MFC family was in a jubilant mood after securing its spot in the 1st division the previous day. Defender, Madan Rai won the coveted Player of the Year award.
